With The Light of Freedom in Our Eyes
Joy Al-Sofi - USA
Oh Egypt, Oh Egypt!
(I hope this means what I hope it means
An end to tyranny not just to Mubarak’s regime.)
No matter what,
Today we are together
Smiling and crying
All at the same time
We have heard the cry
“أعطني حريتي أطلق يديا ”
(*“Give me my freedom, release my hands” )
And with this morning’s light
We have been set free.
Together we are dancing.
To blessed music
Made by flooding waters
Of a new Nile.
* From Oum Kalthoum’s song “Al Atlal “
