Not like you

Joy Al-Sofi - USA

                            Not like you.

I am burned out,
But not from life
I still have my home.
I can still sit in my living room
Look out the window
Watch the evening news

                                                                Not like you.

I am burned out
But not from life
Not from clean water.
I can still bathe and drink
Wash my clothes.
Share it with the flowers

                                                                Not like you.
I am burned out
But not from life
Not from my friends
I can still reach out to them
And they to me
We can drink tea of an afternoon.

                                                                Not like you.
I am burned out
But not from life
Not from sleep
I still have a room
Where the night is quiet
I can still lie on my bed and dream

                                                                Not like you.

I am burned out,
But not from life
Not from power.
I can still rent a movie
See my children
Write a poem.

                                                                Not like you.

I am burned out,
But not from life
I am still connected
Still surf the net
Find a date
Cry for John Travolta’s loss.

                                                                Not like you.

I am burned out,
But not from life
Not from food
I can still cook breakfast
Eat cake.

Read and discuss
The meaning of the morning news.
