Untitled Jumoke Verissimo - Nigeria
True
Times were dry Drought spared No flesh on our bones--
With nothing to feast on
We savoured our tears Baked them into caked worries Insoluble doubts that broke inner rage
Those days when Time cracked Galleries of despair
We became the only ones who knew What it meant to have and never keep
We wondered how we’d dissolve desires We prayed hard to remember nothing of pain We moulded teardrops as an eternal reminder
We relearnt how to replay the past and cry.
